![]() Some websites say you can only use "x" 2FA app: So i was like "ok, codes are different depending of the app you use" => but no, seems like it is "universal" and can be imported on similar apps like Authy or GA.I think confusion comes from different things: ![]() Not a fan of cloud storage when it comes to security. I'd go USB-C and buy a USB-C to USB-A adapter just in case. Since then they have added exports and cloud backups which makes it easy to use on multiple devices. It used to be once you added your seed to GA you couldn't export them back out again (of course nothing prevents you from keeping copies of the seeds which you should do) which prevents you from moving to other devices. I'm going to guess you came across some old information about GA. You can read about those in my comment hereĮven better GA now supports cloud backups so you will be able to just reload them in a batch instead of having to do it one by one. TOTP is a standard for generating One-Time Passwords (OTP), all you have to do is scan the QR code or input the seed into your favorite authenticator (Bitwarden if you sub to the premium tier, 2FAS if don't or just don't want to keep your seeds in Bitwarden) and it should work fine.įor what it is worth, while GA is fine as an authenticator there are reasons that make other authenticators preferable. So i want to add a 2FA application but my website only allow Google Authenticatorįirst off, while whatever website you looking at may say you can only use Google Authenticator you can really use any authenticator. Ps: extra question, if i want to buy a YubiKey, is it better to go USB-A or USB-C ? -C seems nice because it can be used on any smartphone but USB-A have more compatibility overall (with an old computer for example). I read that i can't do that and that all these QR code/key are linked to the old phone, seems really weird, is it true ? GA doesn't allow multidevices ? I thought that it could be possible to install GA on an ultimited number of devices as long as i had these QR codes to restore any account. Can i just buy a new one, install Google Authenticator on the new phone and import all my accounts/websites with QR code or key i previously saved offline ? (the QR code/key you see when you add the 2FA app on your account). or keys like Yubikey but i can't buy one at the moment. ![]() It is available for Android smartphones and Apple iPhones. So i want to add a 2FA application but my website only allow Google Authenticator. The app works even if your phone is offline. Once you have linked your Google account to your smartphone, you can use it to retrieve a six-digit code that you have to enter when logging in to Google (in addition to your chosen password). The Google Authenticator app works in a similar manner. In many cases two-factor authentication involves receiving a code sent via SMS, which is entered into your online account to prove your identity. ![]() This often takes the form of a cell phone. you no longer log in to your email service or other online accounts using only a password, but require a secondary security factor to log in. So-called two-factor authentication is now standard - i.e. Over recent years, email and Internet service providers have worked on ways to improve the security of user accounts and their data. Google Authenticator is an app provided by Google that lets you protect your Google account from identity theft or other forms of misuse.
